Media outlets have insinuated Ames died by suicide following successive comments on Twitter, in which she defended her refusal to perform in a pornographic movie with a man who had previously worked in gay pornography, and sparking an 'online firestorm'. Her death was ruled a suicide by the Ventura County Medical Examiner's Office. On December 5, 2017, Ames was found dead after hanging herself at her home in Camarillo, California.
