Growing up with a gay father, particularly one who was afraid to come out, presented challenges in our ability to get emotionally close. So this is my story of growing up with a gay father. But I knew he was gay by the time I was 7 or 8.
I never grew up with my father as he and my mom divorced when I was 6 months old.
